Running Season Has Arrived!

Ahhh beautiful Missouri day in March. I had every intention of running on the treadmill at lunch today. I have a 4 mile run in 8 days, so today I wanted to get in a 2 mile run at lunch. My coworker called and told me it was BEAUTIFUL outside, so I thought "what the heck? Today may be the only chance I get to really get a run in outside before the race."

I took off from the parking lot, started off downhill, took a left past the police station and ran UP a hill, over a bridge and down another hill. By the time I looked down at my Garmin, I had already run 1 mile and at an 11 minute pace! Holy balls! I ran down another hill, and turned on the last road to complete the loop. And I have to say, this last half mile is 85% up hill. One being quite the monster. I ran until I came to the intersection at Main Street, where I had to stop for traffic. I almost puked. I’m not even kidding. Once I was able to cross the street and run again though, puke feeling went away and I was so incredibly empowered. I got to 2 miles and walked the .3 extra to work.

I haven’t felt the runners high since December, but I was so excited when I came inside. Getting the high fives from the athletic people at work was awesome too. I feel like I’ve joined some secret club at work with all the cool kids. Ya know, burning calories when I could be sitting in my cubicle stuffing my face with McDonalds. (Since McDonalds is literally a stone’s throw away.)

Now, I am and was pooped after that 2 mile run. BUT, if I can do a 3 mile run before next Saturday, I will have the confidence I need to run the race. I had only run 2 miles straight before my first 5k, and finished that 5k a LOT faster than I anticipated. AND ran the whole thing. Something about being in the race setting gives you the adrenaline you need to run more than you think you can when you train.

So I’m excited, empowered, and well, having an allergy attack.
The rest of the weekend looks icky, but Missouri weather seems to change at the drop of a hat. Maybe I'll luck out and have another opportunity to run. If not, I have a Starbucks date Saturday morning, and will head to the gym after that.

Ramblings of Crazy Lo- How Do Blogs Inspire You?

I never thought much about blogging until the last year or so when I started reading others' weight loss blogs. And I have to say, reading your wonderful blogs have inspired me in many ways. Here are a few off the top of my head:

  • I have started trying more organic foods.

  • I have started trying more new foods in general actually!

  • I took up running a year ago because of Julia's blog. Check her out at Keeping Up With Goliath. I promise you, I had zero-ZERO-ZERO intention of EVER running until I read her blog.

  • I started making cute seasonal centerpieces for my kitchen table thanks to Jessica at Her Posh Palate. Keep the ideas coming Posh!

  • Thanks to many of the blogs I read, I get outside when the weather's nice, take pictures and enjoy nature. Most importantly, I keep MOVING.

  • I feel like I stop and think about my life more. I take notice of the important things and document my memories for later.

  • Most of all, I think reading your blogs has made me more accountable. It never, ever fails that when I'm slacking, one of you fine ladies (weird, I don't follow any male blogs yet) writes something that inspires me to get off my butt.

So thanks friends! You've had a positive influence on my life.
